Melbourne, Victoria. The second
largest city in Australia standing beside
the Yarra river and Port Phillip Bay, it
grew from the gold rush in the 1850's.
Parliament House,The Treasury and
Melbourne University are some of the
buildings from that time, it was also the
countries seat of Parliament until 1927
when it moved to Canberra. The city is
like a grid, surrounded by many
gardens such as the Botanical
gardens with over 43 hectares (106
acres) and more than 12, 000 plants.
It's exports wheat, wool, fruit , meat
and dairy, along with car assembly
plants. It hosted the Olympic games in
1956 and the Commonwealth games in
2006. Has been known as the garden
state. Visit places like The Yarra Valley
for wines and restaurants, The
Dandenongs which have tall trees and
the Puffing Billy, Phillip Island and its
penguins or Macedon Ranges and spa
country, all within an easy drive from
Melbourne city. Melbourne's weather
has a reputation of wet, windy, sunny
all in one day, on the other side,  It is
rarely unbearably chilly - in winter the
average temperature ranges between
6°C (43°F) and 13°C (55°F), the
mercury rises above 35°C (95°F) and
Melbourne's soggy weather isn't reality
that bad - it receives only half the
average rainfall of Sydney.
